Ali Bragard

Allison (Ali) Bragard has studied yoga, massage, and Pilates over the past twenty years and she is passionate about how we can truly change our bodies and our lives through these disciplines.

She is currently teaching Pilates mat classes at Yoga on Parker, having been certified as a Classical Pilates teacher in Los Angeles, California in 2004. Her classes are open to anyone, and will challenge students of all levels, focusing on strength, control and flexibility. Pilates exercises are incredibly efficient and focused, designed to strengthen the core as well as the entire body, improve flexibility and lengthen muscles. The exercises focus on core postural muscles, which help keep the body balanced and healthy. This results in a healthy back as well as a leaner, more sculpted, physique.

Ali approaches her classes with a love for Pilates, a sense of humor, and a desire to help each person find their centre, which will enable them to live a healthier and happier life.

Camille Jeboult

Camille has been teaching yoga since 2002, holding a Teaching Diploma. She is a member of the Yoga Teachers Association Australia.

She completed 300 teacher training hours with Peter Scott and continues to undertake further training with Peter as well as Sue Scott, Pixie Lillas and Glen Ceresoli. ‘Yoga has given me a stability and consistency that I can refer to daily. I can better manage my tension-levels, and read the signs when I might fall back into unhelpful emotional patterns and attitudes. I try to grow with my yoga.’

She first began in movement arts in 1989 with the Korean martial art of Hap Ki Do at age 19, training intensively for 10 years to reach 2nd dan level. She taught Hap Ki Do in Brisbane from 1995. She shifted the focus from the strong martial style towards Chi Gung and Yoga practices.

In 2005 she had a son, Pierro. ‘Naturally practice focus had to shift to accommodate my new friend! Less time on the mat and cushion, more time practicing patience, selfless service and rejoicing in the abundance of loving kindness and compassion! Happily, daily practice on the mat has been restored for the past couple of years and how much more I appreciate it now!’

She has been a practicing Buddhist in the Tibetan tradition since 2002. ‘I find the mind science of Buddhism very practical in my day to day life. It provides a structure that I can work with when I find myself going off-track’.

In addition to a dedicated parenting role and teaching yoga, Camille co-ordinates events in the form of film fundraisers at Langri Tangpa Centre. She also is in business as bookkeeper with her tree worker partner, Teja.

She currently teaches 3 classes a week at Yoga On Parker, which include a beginners course, an open class and an experienced class. She also offers yoga intensives and workshops and hosts Peter Scott Iyengar Yoga workshops.

Camille imbues her classes with warm-heartedness. She encourages students to work within their present capacity only challenging themselves into stronger work once the foundations are stable. Students are entreated to move deeply inward to find alignment that includes physical, mental and emotional balance, learning to connect with and direct the energies within.

Christine Smith

Wednesday night ‘Yoga for a Healthy Back’ offers gentle style yoga suitable for all back concerns.

The aim of these classes is to release, relax and strengthen the back and abdominal muscles and works to bring alignment to the spine.

The slow and controlled movements allow for heightened awareness of the back promoting a greater self awareness allowing the healing to come from within.

The class is suitable for beginners, people with existing back concerns, or as a preventative measure.

Christine has been practicing yoga regularly for the past 5 years, teaching for the past 2 years in the Hatha Yoga style.

Damaging the disc's in her own lower spine has had her looking within to listen to the "whispers of the body before it screams", which is reflected within the class.

Emma Costello

Emma Costello discovered Iyengar yoga in her final year of University of Technology in Sydney in 1999. It proved extremely beneficial to help with stress and cope with work loads; bringing strength, vitality, mobility, thoughtfulness and equanimity.

Iyengar yoga is based on the eight limbs of yoga. The great sage Patanjali wrote The Yoga Sutras over 2500 years ago and has been developed over 75 years by Yogacharya BKS Iyengar who still practises daily at the age of 90.

Iyengar yoga is distinguished by:

Planned sequencing

Timing

Precision and alignment

Use of props

Emma attended a teacher training course from 2002 -2005 in Victoria and obtained her Intro Level 1 certificate and is continuing her teacher training in Brisbane with Simon Marrocco (Intermediate Senior Level 2 Iyengar Yoga Teacher). Emma has completed her Intro Level 2 in October 2009. She has been teaching yoga for 7 years.

Malcolm White

Yoga is a lifelong calling for Malcolm White (Mal).

He currently teaches early morning and evening ‘General’ classes at YOP which offer a range of options to suit all levels of experience. Based on the teaching of BKS Iyengar, each class is designed to activate the body's muscles, tone the organs and relieve the stress and strain of everyday life. Iyengar classes incorporate the use of props to allow students of all ages and degrees of flexibility to access correct body alignment when practicing the yoga asanas (poses).

Mal has been practicing yoga for over 7 years, and has been a devotee of the Iyengar system since 2002 and commenced his formal teacher training in 2007 with an Iyengar Association teacher.

Mal is a member of the Iyengar Yoga Association and has taught yoga for 2 years around the Brisbane area.

Mal is still in the early stages of a progression that may take decades to fulfill. His intention is to continue to develop and improve as a practitioner and teacher for both his own well-being and to better educate his students. As with all teachers in the Iyengar Yoga system, Mal is currently in training under a Senior Teacher and mentor who has received direct training from the yoga master BKS Iyengar so that his understanding comes direct from the source of knowledge.

This means that his teaching is faithful to the teaching of BKS Iyengar and is similar to all other Iyengar teachers throughout the world.

Mal is presently a teacher in training and holds a Level 1 certification from the BKS Iyengar Association of Australia.

Currently he is working with his mentor Simon Marrocco, of St Kilda Iyengar Yoga School, to prepare for the next level.

Mal is also a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist and Wat Pho Thai Massage practitioner.

Narelle Carter-Quinlan

Narelle Carter-Quinlan (BAppSc) has been passionately engaged with yoga, dance and embodied movement practices for over 40 years.

She has completed the rigorous and demanding Iyengar teacher training with Alan Goode and has been teaching yoga since 1988. An anatomist by academic training, she has taught Anatomy & Physiology at QUT for 7 years.

Her ongoing signature inquiry, and that which she ignites in her students, is of the body as felt, known, poetic space; the interior terrain. Her yoga and dance teaching is infused with a rich “experiential anatomy”, inviting potent change and expansion in the practitioner's experience of themselves in asana. Inhabiting a scoliotic landscape, Narelle's work offers deep insight into practising yoga within scoliosis and with backcare issues; a strong feature of her work lies in the creative, emphatic and incisive use of props, enabling precise pentetration of the intelligence through the body.

She is renowned for her radiant Powerpoint presentations and playful teachings on Spinal Anatomy for yoga. Narelle regularly teaches for and assists Donna Farhi. She teaches yoga and anatomy in Europe and the States and presents her research in yoga for scoliosis at International peer reviewed conferences. Narelle makes an annual pilgrimage to New York City for ongoing studies in yoga for scoliosis and backcare, and dance and movement practices. She is in the process of researching “House of the Broken Wing”, a performative, film and written exploration of moving in a scoliotic environment.

Narelle offers two weekly yoga classes, as Courses, at YOP. Please note that Registration is required for these Courses; other attendance may be available by negotiation and places permitting. Narelle is available for Private sessions at her studio in The Gap.
