There are many products on the market, and some you can use in multiple ways.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One of the points you may need to consider before buying is how flexible are you? Would you prefer a stool so that you can kneel, or would you like to sit cross-legged?<\/li>\n<li>When you first start meditating you may feel that sitting cross-legged for a long period of time is not possible. It does get easier, practice makes perfect!!!<\/li>\n<li>It is important to have your pelvis higher than your knees, which is why it is recommended to use a meditation cushion, or a rolled-up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/props\/yoga-blanket.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yoga Blanket<\/a>,\u00a0or even a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/props\/yoga-block.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yoga Block<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/meditation-products\/zafu-zabuton-meditation-cushions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meditation cushion<\/a>, (either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/crescent-meditation-cushion-organic-cotton-kapok-fill.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crescent<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/organic-cotton-round-zafu-kapok-fill.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">round<\/a>) the best way to sit is on the edge of the cushion with your pelvis tilted forward. This is to promote the natural curve of your spine, which will allow you to sit for long periods without developing a painful back. Ensure that your neck and shoulders are relaxed. You can rest your hands on your knees, or use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/mudras-for-body-mind-and-spirit-the-handy-course-in-yoga-by-gertrud-hirschi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mudra<\/a> (keep an eye out for our next blog on Mudras) of your choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In order to help you tilt your pelvis forward, sit with your legs crossed, one foot in front of the other, both ankles touching the ground (Burmese Position).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>With both feet on the floor, you will find that your knees will touch the ground. If they do not touch the ground, try rolling a yoga blanket, or using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/small-bolsters-kapok-filled-organic-cotton.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">baby bolster<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/kapok-neck-pillow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">neck pillow<\/a>, to add extra support to your knees. If you feel any strain in your knees, change your position, or use added support.<\/li>\n<li>If you find that sitting cross-legged to much of a strain on your knees, there is also the option of kneeling and sitting on a meditation stool. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/folding-meditation-stool.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Folding Meditation Stools <\/a>are designed to sit on an angle, to again promote the natural curvature of your spine.<\/li>\n<li>You sit with the stool tilting towards you, with your legs tucked under the stool. You may like to sit on top of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yoga-king.com\/organic-cotton-zabuton-kapok-fill.html\">Zabuton<\/a> for added comfort.<\/li>\n<li>There are other ways of sitting, for example in full or half lotus, but these are advanced postures, and unless you are certain you will not strain your knees, please avoid these postures.<\/li>\n<li>Meditation is about letting go of your thoughts, trying not to think, to quieten your mind. You will have trouble doing this effectively if you are uncomfortable, so it is important to ensure that you are not in any pain when you sit, or that you will not develop pins and needles, or a sore back, that you are not too hot, or too cold.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Placing your meditation cushion or Zafu on top of a Meditation mat or Zabuton will add to the comfort of your meditation experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Mindful Meditation becomes more and more popular, the way people meditate becomes more of an issue.
